Het verleden zadelt ons nochtans op met vele voormalige stortplaatsen die nog steeds bestaan. Daarbij rijst de vraag naar de toekomstmogelijkheden ervan. Als antwoord hierop ontwikkelde de OVAM een aanpak voor een duurzaam voorraadbeheer van stortplaatsen. Een eerste en cruciale stap is een grondige inventarisatie. Deze kaart geeft de ligging van de gekende stortplaatsen in Vlaanderen. Ze kadert in de Europese INSPIRE-richtlijn om geografische data van overheden toegankelijker te maken zowel voor overheden als voor het publiek. De kaart bevat de risicogronden met Vlarebo -rubrieken die verwijzen naar de aanwezigheid van een stortplaats (2.3.6, 2.3.7 of 2.3.11).
